Old Jack wrote:Hello there. To create a text brush is a simple task, but the end result can make the dullest of images come alive. The instructions that follow are for PSP 9 in particular, as that is the version of choice for all School projects ... but are the same instructions for any version 8 and above.
1. Open a new blank image 500 x 500 pixels (this is the maximum size allowable by PSP 8 through to X for a brush ... version XI allows 999 x 999 pixels) and flood fill it with white. If you are creating the brush for a specific one off purpose, then open the New Image to the same size as your finished product is intended to be,

2. Select your Text tool with the settings shown in the screenshot below (the screenie has been displayed in two sections due to width. Admin get shirty if you break their display rules :lol) Select a font and a size to suit the text that you wish to display. It is best to select a size that fills your image, whether it be a single word, or a passage of prose. If the Text Size Presets are not big enough, just highlight the size displayed and type in your own size. The idea behind this is that PSP sizes a brush down with more clarity than it sizes it up. Set your foreground and background colour to black. Type in your text and then when satisfied apply it.

3. The main reason we used a Vector for the text is if you wish to rotate it. This can also be done using the Rotation setting in the Brush Tool Options in PSP, but sometimes, doing it that way means you have to resize the brush down past being legible to fit it to your image. If you wish to rotate it, do so now.

4. Once you are totally satisfied with your image, it is simply a matter of going to File/Export/Custom Brush. You do not need to convert your Vector layer to a raster ... what you see in the "Create Brushtip" dialog box is what you will get. Give your new brush a name, type in any details should you so wish to retain them if you share it, and then click OK. That's it ... your new brush should now be available in the dropdown on the Brush Tool Options presets.
